Distant Thunder
is a dialogue between God and the soul based on Saint Therese's 'The Little
Way'.
The soul, because of sin, is unable to fully embrace the intimacy which took
place before entering the realm of time. Because of God's deep love, He promised
that He would never leave us and the sound of His voice we would always remember.
Distant Thunder opens the door to spiritual childhood and child-like trust.
Accompany this 33:33 spiritual journey through the peaks and valleys of a
struggling soul to the triumphant victory over greed and pretention.
The music for Distant Thunder is like a walk through a manifold garden...
or a visit of an exhibition with a great variety of pictures, an assembly
of all sorts of instruments and sounds. The whole structure is held together
by ambient sound textures and a short extract from a theme composed by J.S.
Bach in 'Die Kunst der Fuge' which appears several times during the 33 minutes.
The play is divided into sections of reciting and corresponding interludes.

PRELUDE
G1 (2:41)
It begins with Me. Everything begins with Me. I am the beginning and the end..
It mattered not your lot, male or female, rich or poor. I am the golden thread
woven within the fabric of your darkness.
S1 (3:14)
My Lord, before time captured me, what fire my soul possessed! I was a flame,
a living flame burning for Your love. Enkindled with child-like love cradled
forever in Your heart.
G2 (3:53)
I sang to you. As a mother carries her infant, I carried your soul within
My heart. The path of truth I planted in your soul; a seed of life, a plant
of light, never to leave your side.
INTERLUDE1 (4:25)
S2 (5:23)
Branded with grave-full ambition, I possessed the heart of a snake. A wolf
in sheeps clothing; I would seek to win the confidence of my fellow
man then, reveal his secrets to gain power, money and possessions. I drank
from the cup of pretension, self-importance and greed.
INTERLUDE2 (6:08)
S3 (6:41)
Divine gardener, weeds of untruths and pride spread like wildfire within my
soul and the pruning time had come. My reputation and integrity were in question.
As a barren, leafless tree in winter, I had nothing! I had become bitter,
poor and alone but not humble.
INTERLUDE3 (7:29)
G3 (8:37)
Rise and come. My child, I promised I would never leave you. The tomb of pride
fell between us. At that very moment, the hereditary stain from original sin
lowered, darkening the sweet songs of our hearts. But, the sound of My voice
you would always remember.
S4 (9:18)
The grandeur of riches enticed my senses with blinding, calculating dishonesty.
Poverty was a curse to my soul and an insult to my intellect.
I preferred death to poverty.
G4 (9:58)
Union with God is found in innocence, littleness and poverty. This tilts the
scales of divine love overflowing and transforming into the weakest of souls.
Docility and meekness, the mystical current of love removes and heals the
gravest wounds transforming your soul to child-like purity.
INTERLUDE4 (10:48)
S5 (12:22)
The faith of a child does not come easy or natural to me. It takes quiet moments
all through my day to remind me to focus on trusting in You
as a little
child.
G5 (12:57)
Search for the narrow, hidden road; forgotten, unknown and free from ones-self
yet, free for God. Do not be discouraged by your faults. Poverty united with
confidence brings forth the greatest power of God within your soul.
S6 (13:33)
The narrow road? Opportunity knocks upon wide and busy streets. The narrow
road I will travel when I am old, tired and dying. In the darkness of my deathbed
our hearts will speak, our souls unite.
INTERLUDE5 (14:12)
G6 (15:05)
I rejoice within weak and humble souls, without desires or virtues, more than
the creation of millions of stars inlaid as precious stones in the universe.
S 7 (15:23)
Desires, filled the emptiness within my heart.
G7 (15:34)
Child of My heart, veiled in darkness, was our sweet and intimate conversation.
I engraved My truth within your heart, My voice resounding within your soul,
as distant thunder beckoning you home.
Oh, the path of the little way is a most powerful way in which a soul can
obtain my love and mercy.
S8 (16:15)
My Lord, you blessed me with poverty and weakness. I say blessed because You
allowed me to see the hidden beauty of the things that I often trampled under
foot. Now I am ashamed of this once loved lifestyle.
G8 (16:45)
Spiritual childhood resounds beyond words, outside of language. It cannot
be described adequately but, an empowering mystical union of souls that most
resemble My heart. Humble, meek souls I favor with My confidence and receive
My graces. Pride separates the soul from God and obscures the light of truth.
The living spirit within feels the incision as flesh feels the separation
from a limb.
S9 (17:31)
I was a prodigal child searching for my way back home; I had sinned against
You and my neighbor. External possessions ruled and controlled my life and
deep within I was starving and grasping for love.
INTERLUDE6 (18:06)
G9 (19:20)
My creatures I loved
loved to the point of death, a most hideous death
on a cross! I had to know and feel everything to be able to plead to My Father
on their behalf; even for your despair;
S10 (19:43)
Consumed by the fire of Your love, I ate the bitter bread of alienation
G10 (19:56)
Yet, the wind, you knew not, where it came nor where it shall blow. I chose
you before the earth existed and the wind of knowledge has sweetly embraced
your heart.
S11 (20:17)
Oh, my Lord the winds came! Yes, they blew sweetly, bittersweetly, yet fiercely
through the dark, shadowy hollows of my soul uprooting the very passions of
my life. Storm clouds gathered pouring down torrents of rain and rivers of
tears cleansing my vision from deception.
G11 (21:01)
Within your shadows, I stood before you. I called to you in the wind, My voice
spoke to you in distant thunder calling you to return as the child of My heart.
I allowed you to see the shadows, these shadows of illusions in order that
you would see this unreal estate of the spirit and to see the reality and
power of innocence and meekness. Transcendence is not outward but inward.
S12 (24:49)
I saw for the first time the beauty of interior silence. I felt like a tiny,
helpless, flower.
INTERLUDE 7 (22:13)
G12 (23:06)
I ,the Son of man and the Son of God drank bitterness from the bottom of the
cup. When helped by divine love, nothing is too heavy to lift. When God does
not help, even the petal of a flower is too much to hold. I defeated despair
with the strength of a man. To obtain victory over helplessness and the evil
one and to be a servant to God and to you; I defeated death, not the death
of crucifixion but, the conscious death of a broken heart, sweating of blood,
despair and helplessness
S13 (24:04)
Greed and power once possessed me; deception my creed. Now, vanished in the
death of night. Shadows haunted my dreams and threatened my peace with weapons
of despair, , loneliness, grief and the poverty of spirit. Within anxiety
and pain, I heard distant thunder calling to me, singing to me as a far away
lullaby from a mysterious, beautiful place. You enkindled this tiny flame
of my heart with unquenchable thirst.
INTERLUDE 8 (25:14)
God 12-A (26:40)
The poverty of spirit is an enlightened, sacred, place within your soul revealing
the wealth of your nothingness. You possess the greatest power of God himself
when you are little and weak. The spirit of poverty...is an angel of clear
and true vision.
Soul 13-A (27:07)
Shining before me was this divine room of spiritual poverty. My appetite for
excessive possessions controlled me. I was a slave to the spirit of materialism.
I believed the lie that many possessions were the path to happiness. With
strong and gentle hands, this divine spirit helped me climbed down the pedestal
of self-importance and greed.
God 12-B (28:07)
This most holy spirit aided you in confronting your fears and identified truth.
Filling the corners of your life with things blocked My light and prevented
You from possessing true happiness and peace.
INTERLUDE 9 (28:22)
S14 ( 29:23 )
Your lantern, filled with the oil of calm, glowed like an angel of peace,
in the background of my soul.
G13 ( 29:39 )
Come to Me all who are weary and broken in spirit, I will be your strength.
S15 ( 29:55 )
Dawn has appeared within my heart. Your presence speaks to me in silence
profound
silence
.as distant thunder calling me home.
G14 ( 30:20 )
With innocence and meekness I refresh your soul and quench your fever with
inner springs of My love; This garment of unity embrace!
OUTRO ( 30:30 )
END ( 33:33 )
